Department of Periodontics

The Department of Periodontics at ACPM Dental College was established in 2003. It deals with the preventive & corrective measures for the management of gingival & periodontal diseases and placement of dental Implants. Advanced dental implant procedures like sinus lift & ridge augmentations, cosmetic periodontal procedures, regenerative and resective periodontal surgeries & comprehensive laser therapy are conducted on a regular basis.

Clinical skills training in non-surgical and preventive periodontal procedures and opportunities to learn and master a variety of periodontal surgical and implant procedures has been at the core of the department’s objectives. Basic, clinical and translational research under the guidance of experienced faculty has enabled students to opt for a career in research and academics.

Goals

• Training in our department groom students to acquire adequate knowledge, necessary skills and reasonable attitudes which are required for carrying out all activities appropriate to general dental practice involving prevention, diagnosis and treatment of anomalies & diseases of periodontium. We nurture them through innovative teaching methodologies to be efficient clinicians, educators & researcher.

• A fully developed under-graduate and post-graduate section with total 34 electronic dental chairs for ease and comfort.
• A separate sterilization room for under-graduate and post-graduate clinic.
• Well-equipped laboratory and clinical compartments for P.G. students.

• A separate seminar room for daily case presentations, seminars and journal clubs.
• The department has well equipped implant clinic with physio-dispenser, Soft tissue laser unit, electrocautery, RVG unit, Bone regenerative materials, GTR, magnifying loupes and intra-oral camera for documentation of cases.Hands on training in various implant systems and clinical exposure to use of lasers is being imparted as part of the curriculum.
• Rural community camps provide students with an opportunity to be a part of public health programs.

Treatment facilities

• Patient education and motivation on oral hygiene & tobacco cessation.
• Minor surgical procedures like Frenectomy, Curettage, Gingivectomy. Crown lengthening, Depigmentaion, Smile Designing, local drug delivery, Bleaching, Coronoplasty and Operculectomy.
• Major surgical procedures like Flap Surgery, Mucogingival Surgery, Surgical Lip Repositioning, Dental Implants , Resective & Regenerative Surgery,.
• Blood less, painless, needle-less surgical procedures using Diode Laser.
